About us

An independent game studio in Bosnia and Herzegovina, built on a simple idea: that world-class games can be made right here in Bosnia.

My story

I studied Game Development at SRH Heidelberg and worked in the industry for a few years after graduating. I shipped things. I learned how teams operate, how deadlines move, how to work inside someone else's vision. Solid work, but never the projects I actually wanted to make.

Starting my own studio had been the plan since my first year of studying. Studio Ashty is that plan, finally real. And Nightwater is the first commercial game.

I was born in Bosnia and moved to Germany at a young age. I grew up there, studied there, worked there and at some point realised I didn't need to stay. Bosnia has real creative talent, and almost nowhere to make games. So instead of becoming one more studio in Germany, I started Studio Ashty here, in Sarajevo, where I think it means something more.

Founder & CEO

Amar Civic

I'm the founder of Studio Ashty and, for now, the whole studio. Every decision, every line of code, every 3D-Model: that's me. I wouldn't have it any other way, at least not yet.

I make games I'd actually want to play. Nightwater was inspired by my love of automation and crafting games. Minecraft, Factorio, and Forager are all games that were a big part of my youth, and I now hope to create games just like these for others.

What I believe

The things that guide me

Small, made well

I'd rather ship smaller games with shorter, honest development cycles than chase something huge and never finish it. Focus beats scope.

Open by default

There's no corporate wall between me and the people who play my games. I share the process, I read the messages, and I'm reachable. You're talking to a person, not a brand.

Built in Bosnia

There's real creative talent here with almost nowhere to make games. Studio Ashty exists partly to change that, and to give that talent somewhere to land.
